Last summer I was camping in the Sierra backcountry and ended up performing an experiment. Due to the very late, wet Spring, the mosquitoes were very dense, so I decided to test “Bug Brew” vs, “Deep Woods Off®”. My camping buddy and I had not used either product until this trip. I used the Off®, following the printed directions and my friend used Bug Brew spray (shook and applied one application as per printed instructions).
That night we both camped outside in our sleeping bags. Given the conditions, it was to our pleasant surprise that Bug Brew performed as well as the toxic Deet-laced Off®. We both had minimal bites, my buddy faring just as well as me. We now carry Bug Brew in both our Jeeps and backpacks and I buy it for all my guests. I strongly encourage everyone to consider this product as a viable alternative to harmful chemicals like Deet.

I used Bug Brew in the dry climate of the mountains and hot, humid areas in Texas on hunting and fishing trips. Our family has suffered with some type of mites off and on for the last several years. Their bites leave small, extremely itchy red lumps where the females burrow to lay eggs (ugh!) Also, there’s a general sense of itchiness all over, especially on the head, which is worse at night, making sleep difficult. Conventional treatments for mites are harsh and toxic. Having multiple chemical sensitivities I avoid all synthetic chemicals as much as possible. With a great deal of research, we were able to discover only a few products that address the mite problem naturally. Even some of the natural one’s seemed rather harsh and required a lot of work to be effective. My chiropractor determined that Bug Brew would help to control the mites, and indeed it does! I applied Bug Brew on my horses’ faces and ears, mainly to keep the mosquitoes and small gnat-like flies off. I was very pleased with its effectiveness. The horses don’t mind having it rubbed on them at all! I like using it knowing I’m not putting chemicals on them or near their eyes. I also like the way it smells!
